Driving Tour - The Studey Zone, April 20, 2024 (Studebaker National Museum,., Tippecanoe Place, South Bend Chocolate) FCC members along with Corvair club and Studebaker chapter members ventured to South Bend Indiana on Saturday April 20th to visit the Studebaker national museum and other points of interest.  We gathered at the Indiana welcome center just off of I-80/90/94 in Hammond. About 25 folks were in attendance, queued for an 8:30 departure. The drive was uneventful, and all arrived on schedule at the museum. Several other members met with us at that location, having driven there earlier in the day. The museum is quite impressive, being a purpose built 3 floor structure with fine displays and signage for each exhibit. Horse drawn wagons dating back to Studebakers beginnings in 1852 to the very last Studebaker automobile built in 1966 were all on hand. Adjacent to the Stude museum is the historic 37 room Oliver mansion, built in 1897 and restored to its opulent glory. A number of our group opted to take the mansion tour as well. Next on our route was lunch at Tippecanoe place, former mansion of Clement Studebaker, now turned restaurant.  Several of us did stop by the South Bend Chocolate café’ or factory on our way out of town for some tasty mementoes of the day. The weather and traffic cooperated all day long, so we’ll mark this tour as a fine success!     March 16, 2024 Eastwood Auto Supply, Alsip, IL and Lunch at Portillos after tour. Our tour for March was to Eastwood’s retail store in Alsip for a demonstration on “paint correction”. The weather was decent enough, so we expected an adequate attendance. What we got was GREAT attendance, completely filling the demonstration room with 43 guests and Vince, our presenter. The room was set up with a with a neglected car hood, and various cleaning/polishing compounds, discs, and tools. Vince began with the right way to wash a car, pointing out some obvious and not so obvious mistakes people make with that process. Then we got into the selection of the polishes and compounds available today, including the new ceramics and how they differ. Vince demonstrated how to use a buffing wheel properly and the mistakes to avoid. The weathered hood section looked show ready at the end of the demonstration. Questions and answers followed, and everybody agreed it was one of the best presentations of this kind they had attended. We were then free to wander the store, stocked full of automotive body supplies and tools. A tip of hat goes to the Eastwood staff and particularly Vince who shared his extensive experience with our group. Many of us headed over to a nearby Portillo’s’ s afterwards which capped off a most excellent Garage tour.         January 20, 2024 Heaton's Hot Roads, Joliet, IL Our January garage went to Heaton’s Hot Rods in Joliet. Despite some very low temps, about 40 members of FCC, Corvair club, and Studebaker clubs braved the cold to visit this former dealership building on the West side of Joliet. Donuts, coffee and water awaited us as we perused the showroom filled with quite a variety of stock, hot rodded and custom built vehicles. Work in progress cars were back in the large shop area, including a rather rare 1966 Beaumont (Canadian Chevelle).
